So the Porsche that I put on the podium for its class at last years 24hr Britcar race was nothing like its road going counterpart?
You're so full of shit sometimes
You're so full of shit sometimes
Are you seriously going to tell me I can buy a 911, GT-R, or ZR-1, turn up to the start of a race and compete safely/competitively?
And seriously now, Britcar is a pretty minor series compared to BTCC, WTCC, DTM, WRC of which they use 'Road Cars'.
Sure, there are niches, but to include them all is silly.
Still, it would be mightily interesting to see a race series between LS-1 and GT-R - standard for standard

I am merely enjoying the 'spectacle' of something achieving cult status, and losing it, before it has even been launched
This does not mean the car is x, y or z. It means it will there will be a group of people who hold the car up as an icon.
The reason being that the the combination of power, handling, technology, brand and price appeals to some people more so than, say a Ferrari, or even a Corvette that is quicker around the ring.
You, or I for that matter, could love it, hate it or be some where inbetween... it won't change this.

that status is conferred on all manner of things
but it's only unanimous in a very few cases
I suspect the problem for the Nissan is that it's near the start of a string of similarly performing 'lower priced' cars
I'd be surprised if Mitsubishi, for one, couldn't match or beat its performance for less money
I doubt the king Evo is far away as it is

But then this whole thread has been based on trends, myself included.
Still, that is all any of us really have to go on.
The only real difference is the abolition of the 276bhp gentlemans agreement.
Yes, we have seen the 400bhp Evo, but that was

I still think the weight race is one being long forgotten.
They seem to be thinking less weight as opposed to more power
Of course, Lotus have done this (or used to) for years
The only trouble there being that the engines tend to be nothing special and half-inched out of mainstream models

The only thing is that it is in the realms of supercars.
Joe Public can't really buy a Ferrari for nipping the shops in.
What you need is a manufacturer to look at using/adapting mainstream materials into a way of reducing weight.
Honeycombing, foam filled chassis, adhiesives, greater use of external plastics...
As you say, Lotus have done this for years, and rightly so.
However, The original Elise weighed in at 723kg. New one is approaching 1000kg!
30% increase
The Yamaha Engine in the Elise is a good engine though

I've got one on order Gad with a delivery date of June 2009. Want to chat to me about it?
No, I didn't order it because of the lap time it was more of a logical progression for me from owning a couple of Evo's and running an S2000 in parallel. Always fancied a Skyline but felt that the R34 was a bit long in the tooth so when the R35 came along it was a no brainer. I just love the whole Jap car thing, I guess.
Just out of curiosity, what is the laptime around the ring for the GTR? The only reason I ask is that I gurantee that my old (modified) Evo will have beaten it, albeit with a professional driver at the wheel when I was there a few years ago, so does that mean I've taken a step backwards
V-Spec is not available yet so you have no choice when it comes to ordering a GTR, save for trim options or colour, besides which the V-Spec apparently has no rear seats and so is useless to me.
Congratulations to Corvette in recognition of their automotive skills. In case you hadn't noticed, Corvette have been around in the ALMS and competing at Le Mans for many years now, producing some category winning cars. They also happen to be good looking too, in my opinion. Would I buy one now? No, because although I'd get my ass smoked at the ring if I ever came across one, if there was even the slightest chance of precipitation, I reckon the Vett would also get me to the gates of St Peter a damn sight faster than the GTR ever would
Chill out people, it's just a car. One thing to seriously ponder though, Gad, is the fact that a LOT of Porker owners layed deposits down for a GTR. The question is why? I really don't understand that one at all.
