my angle, if you get a summons

would be to go along with all the evidence of the car being well maintained - service book, all bills, old MOTs etc

and just say it was a simple, but stupid mistake

distracted by work, family problems, pervy b/f always on the internet, dodgy shirt syndrome

something like that

I doubt the fine would be more than

Wing it.

Go into a wee local police office, preferably when it's busy. Also, preferably with some old fuddy-duddy clerk and just produce the old MOT with your other documents. You might get lucky.

If not appologise and go get a new MOT that day.

Worth a shot at least.

Not that I've done this twice or anything but I know a man who(allegedly) has...ahem.

But I am happy we can wing it anyway...with a small fine at worse.

Just get it done now and show them the certificate, I doubt they would cross-check the date other than to make sure it's current (month and year).

worst case would be a small fine, but to be honest cops will probably send out a written warning as its not gonna be in the public interest to prosecute. or she could have been on her way to the mot testing center, only time your allowed to drive a car on a road without cert.......
