Default Cars EVERYONE should try

A bit like "I've never seen Star Wars" and inspired by Harris' blog on PH at the moment re the EP3 CTR..

What cars should EVERYONE try at least once?

What haven't you driven that you really "ought" to have done (I don't mean, what car would you love to drive...so no Zondas here!)

I was desperate to own an F20c at some point, so I bought an S2000.

I haven't ever driven a CTR or ITR, though - and feel like I really should have done by now.

My stripped EG came close to the ITR on paper..but I suspect it was missing something.

So...what do you really think you ought to have tried by now?

Everyone should drive an Elise/exige at some point. I've driven a few Elises, but never an Exige.

+1 for the Caterfield too. Preferably a high powered one like an R400. For pure, raw driving thrills there isn't much around to beat it.

Agree with the Caterfield.

I'd be happy to try any sort of Ariel Atom.

I am finding it a bit hard to differentiate between "ought to" try rather than "want to" try. Maybe we "ought" to try a Prius. Toyota keep on telling us it is our motoring future. Apparently......... (I did drive one and I thought it was a horrible car.)

I suppose taking it out of the performancey circles - everyone should drive a Range at some point - to "get it"

The four that spring to mind have to be an original Mini, a Land Rover Defender (off road) and a 1960's Ford Mustang. Also something totally crap and boring, like a Nissan Bluebird. You can't appreciate the good stuff unless you've driven something crap.

Rather than specifics, it's more of a catgory. Everyone should try at least one car from each category:

The cars below are only examples, trying any half decent member of the breed should be sufficient

Hot Hatch - CTR, Megane RS, Focus ST/RS, Golf GTi/R32
Chelsea Tractor: RR, Cayenne, X5
German Super Saloon: M3, M5, C class AMG, Audi S and RS
Pure driving pleasure: Elise, Caterfield, Atom
2 seater roadster: mx5, barchetta, s2000, slk,
Mid engined car: boxster, elise, mr2, NSX
Properly race prepped car: any normalish car that's been stripped, suspension tweaked, sticky rubber etc
Classic fast without speed: MGB, Stag (not my area of expertise)

EP3???? I'm more convinced these hacks make it up as they go along - bit like how they say the same about Alfas, when the reality is too often a pile of shit to drive. With the old ones it was cock-eyed set-up; newer ones the GM/FIAT shit underneath.

If there were time, there's too much I'd like to drive; often really mundane shit like a Ro80 or DS with the semi-auto.

I'd also want to drive a 128 or Sud or GS again; I'd like to know if it's positive memory syndrome or whether they really were good for such innocuous PoS.

I'd also like to drive several Ferraris, which is what I ought to have done (there is so rarely opportunity to drive them properly, if at all) but I suppose that falls into the Zonda category.

So probably the Honda Leg End! People tell me it's excellent.
