Hope the M is under warranty!
Drive all the below and see what you think. All very very different. I don't like the handling on the 997 and never found it that fun unless I was doing jail term speeds. The 2 Loti however... One is the best handling car I've ever driven, the other is one of the most fun but completely a toy. I found the second time round I just didn't enjoy how harsh it was noise and ride wise.

Oh dear. The need to open up a big BM is not a good sign. We had some pics of the inside of the V10 yesterday, a sight no owner wants to see. Needless to say, it's not looking very good at all.
Less is more.

Yes warranty renewed by me in June Mark
i thought these v8s were pretty bulletproof although there are rumours of dodgy big end bearings on t'web
i am planning a week off and will do some car hunting then i think, or maybe i'll take nipper with me and look at some stuff this weekend

Mine lives to fight another day. As you say Jason a heavy mile muncher.
Just back from trip to Leeds and Peak District, some cricket, a few beers, don't think I picked up any more points but time will tell Highlights include the museum at Headingley (no they didn't corral me ) and the best ever fish and chip deal only 4 mins walk from the ground. Fair crowd of 1500 or so and I think my presence lowered the average age to 70
Noticed some changes around the legal quarter in the city centre - old wine bars now replaced by 'gentlemens clubs'. Figured they would exclude me so didn't even try to get in

Yeah well let's see how it pans out
From what I've read BMW are replacing engines in these scenarios under warranty rather than repairing them. I think the next week will be an interesting one

Wow. Thanks for all the links Jason
How did yours sound? Obvious at tickover? Warm/cold both?
Garage won't be pre-saying obviously but do they know/admit any issues?
I just made a decision to keep a while (SORNd over winter) but now I ain't so certain
Assuming there is an issue the redeeming feature cf Honda may be BMW's market position and M tech performance top end.

panic over
they found a "huge chunk" missing from an aux drive belt so are replacing that as we speak but are confident as they ran without it and the noise was gone
£216
slightly different to the horror stories on those threads. i definitely wont even consider running without a warranty
EDIT to say Phil - i can only imagine how concerning it is to see the engine in bits when you're footing the bill mate

The M has been impeccable since September's stutter. It does struggle getting the power down in the cold & wet weather so i've ordered some new rear boots from the chaps at Event for early Dec...
2 x 265/35ZR19 98Y MICHELIN PILOT SUPER SPORT @ £293.51 per tyre
Ooof
Other than that its behaviour this time of year i'd miss most i think, it seems to just shrug off shit weather and i'm sure round a track the advantage would double vs an S2000. Very sure footed and a nice place to be.
I've put a personal DAB in the centre console, it works fine 90% of the time so i'll probably stick with it for now as i may change the car when i take some time off from work, which maybe sooner rather than later.
