You can post pics to flickr then link with a bit of jiggery. But I don't have any, the car is ditched and rain all weekend forecast.
Got the S back today. It stinks and the steering wheel feels very thin

it's unusual for me not to drive four or five different cars a day at the moment so nothing feels strange
although differences are still instantly detectable between a modern and a classic - brakes can be, interesting...and steering is worlds apart

I drive a Golf GTD, S2 and the M, rarely anything else. The S stinks because I've had it undersealed. Its a great car IMHO, especially roof down. The brakes are hopeless compared with the M though and overall traction and feedback is at a lower level, essentially its lower speed fun which might sound like criticism but its not. Its also more agile on very tight bends as you'd expect.
The golf is the best damped car of the 3, the M is harsh. The payback for that is that on the move the M doesn't betray its heft.
That the golf interior is near the quality of the M is impressive.

The good news: got yr black kidneys today Jason. Will post Monday.
Bad news: bloody w*nkers have lost my MP3 player. Ok it was only a little 2Gig Sony <£25 but they made a point of ensuring I left it in the car to test them fixing the dodgy connection.

Rog, do you know much about the spec on the Alpine edition? ie what version of Idrive etc it has?
The Competition looks ideal but a lot of wedge for some wheels and lowering springs (and some sort of extra M button?) therefore an Alpine might be a good option (I like ltd editions) at a lot less ££
PS - i'm out for Snetterton

It may have white bits inside. Like this
I drive you can tell by looking for black on the controller, early cars are a big alloy knob
Late 09 is when the HD was introduced
Rog, I would tell them its a few hours effort to reload an MP3, the grilles should therefore be gratis. Then I'll pay you for them and you're at least not worse off.
I have an iPhone in there so would be very peed off

Ok ta.
Id have to have these seats and wheel!

I think that chap has done a retrofit, and I've only ever seen 2 cars with the seats fitted from new. Suspect the 5k price tag has something to do with it!

Mark, as Jason says, you can tell from the pic the upgraded iDrive is there - black leather top to knob, physical buttons for the main menu options just in front of the knob. Which fgures: this was July 2009, when they brought out the hard-drive iDrive. Apart from the 10mil drop, the 'Edition' is purely colours, wheels and cosmetics. Here is a link to a review. edit: and another.
Your Pistonheads linked car is the old original iDrive - you can tell by the car's age plus the all-metal knob in pics and also you can just about see the two slots on the central dash, one is the CD the other for the DVD containing the maps. Agreed, nice steering wheel though it looks similar to the standard one apart from whatever that is on the top arc of the rim. Seats? Yep, I would happily sit her on my knee
I do have a July 2010 Evo review of the Competition spec. Will email to your Yahoo address when I get chance to scan it in tomorrow.
Shame you can't make Snetterton but I dropped down to see MarkB and his mad driver today so that sort of makes up for it -
one Mark B's as good as any other
