I noticed that stretch was a bit further down the list. That used to be the way I went after the A54 - another nice bit of road but at weekends it tended to be quite busy. Latterly I've tended to head out of Buxton the other way out along the Goyt Valley then pick up the A5004 from Whaley Bridge back down towards Macc.

Funnily enough, the A1079 & A164 are wide, in good condition and well-marked.

Tends to support my belief that the local drivers are crap.
