Ooh, forgot the Z4 2.0i - soulless posing machine. BMW swore it would never do a four-pot Z4...
Have you seen the number of X3s on the road these days?

I know, shocking. Just goes to show that the general motoring public will buy any old tat, they have no discernment whatsoever. Which is both a bad thing and a good thing - anodyne cars will keep getting made to satisfy these brainless road zombies, while the truly good cars for petrolheads will stand out for what they are - advanced pieces of automotive engineering.
You just have to learn to blank X3 drivers...

I had the privilege of a lift in a new 730 Diesel the other night, from Chobham to Reading.
That was rather impressive even for an auto - forgotten what kind of oomph you can get from an oil burner.

it's a bit unfair to slate things like the 2.0 Z4
a lot of buyers just want the wind in their hair (if they have any left)
and they really don't need or want any more power
people like my sister for example; she buys cars on looks and colour, and since she doesn't drive fast, dynamics are simply irrelevant
such people are possibly in the majority when it comes to convertible purchases, and the manufacturers are only satisfying the market, not creating it

730d puts out 231bhp, 369lbf.ft. I drove a facelift model recently and it was superb. And I think the current model 7-Series (E65/E66) is a wonderfully defiant piece of styling. So much more noticeable and attractive than an S-Class.
Yes, you're right Gad, I've got a soft-spot for Z4s though and the 2.0i left me very cold. It sells well enough, mind; and that's what matters to BMW.

What bhp does the 730 put out? Is it the same as my 330d? (208bhp)

you'll still be looking up at the M3/M5/M6
consoling yourself with all the 'all the car you'll ever need in the real world' bollox, designed to soothe the egos of diesel drivers and middle management the world over
it's not like looking up at something like a Zonda - which is almost certainly a lottery win scenario
it's knowing that you are only about half way up the food chain of your chosen brand
ouch
