[QUOTE=matthehat17,Dec 21 2006, 10:09 AM] 1. Funny you should bring this up, Gad, I had a trawl through and found your experiences of the M5's consumption and you mentioned you get 20mpg. What's your mix of driving? Do you do more motorway miles? I'm still keen on the idea of the E39 and as I don't do mega-miles, I think it makes sense financially.

2. It's up to you San. I'd suggest an M5 for

Do these cars hold their value well? Or are they typical BMWs?

that example is well priced

low miles (unusual for an M5), comms pack and FBMWSH

if you really are interested, read my previous threads on buying owning the M5 (and Moggy's)

just be aware that they are very complex and you will not keep one fully fettled for the same money as an S2000

against that, and in answer to your question, they (now) seem to hold their value pretty well

and I think good ones will always find buyers easily

the fact is that even at five years old, they are still one of the fastest cars on the road, specced very well, and recognised by petrolheads everywhere as a serious piece of kit

mine has just hit 70K miles, so I'm wondering what it is worth

but then mine has the BMW warranty

and it's black

Yes, the costs will be a major issue. Not in itself but because of potential resource allocation to other projects.

Part of the reason I was considering a cheaper 5 series tourer. Perhaps I should consider an Omega again (newer one perhaps!).

I can always indulge myself later on.

San, I was trying to be pessimistic with my valuation of a 530d, so obviously this is the worst-case scenario. But I'd buy one for

if there's no rush you might be interested in the Omega estate I bought a couple of months back

I'll probably out it in the Spring

it's a pre-facelift 99V Elite 2.5 estate with everything (including phone) bar leather, and will have about 82000 on it come sale time

I've just finished getting it into tip top nick and will also do the cambelt

might be worth bearing in mind and you know it won't have been bodged

I've just replaced the brakes and fixed a host of niggles resulting from letting the service schedule lapse

it's a nice car now

Would be interested Pete (should have bought the last one off you as it was a nice example although slightly out of my budget at the time).

But in a bit of a rush as winter's coming, and I don't have faith in the current Omega. And I don't want to end up riding the bike in in the snow!

1st one's pretty good spec, but only 3 months' dealer's warranty (phoned em up). Are these other warranties you can get (RAC, Autoprotect, etc) any good?
