All turbocharged cars require a wastegate as far as I know but I'm not sure about why some make sure a racket. I think it's only required on very high pressured FI engines. MB will be able to explain.
Yep.

Wastegates don't actually make that much noise, except on the big bhp cars with external ones.

Most of the noise you hear is from the dump valve.

If you want the "flipper the dolphin noise" of a WRC car, then just remove your dump valve, and stick a blanking plate over it. Not good for the turbo life, but makes the sqeaky noises

blanking off the recirc system keeps the pipework pressurised between gearchanges if your driving a little spirited.. It makes a noticeable difference Main reason I never replaced it was because the stock recirc was too weak to put up with the increase boost pressure and I started to like the compressor surge noise too much to buy an aftermarket kit

I loved jack's duck call but that was cheating as is this turkey call one.

Like tej's pigeon mod, that fluttering makes me feel breathless.

Thanks for entering into the animal/bird spirit of my thread.

My old set up sounded like i had an aviary under the bonnet, lots of chirps and whistles.Used to annoy the hell out of Phils2k when he drove it so was an added bonus

I cant describe my new set up, it just sounds very very angry.

This is one of my favourites

I remember you following me to Goodwood - did sound like an aviary - wondered what the hell was wrong with mine to begin with!
