Alfa Spider
Thinking of getting a new Alfa Spider does anybody have any experience or advice?
should I entertain the 2.2 or just look at the 3.2?
is it worth getting the four wheel drive version?
is the auto any good?

Don't.
I'm an Alfa fan.
I made the mistake of going for a test drive.
It is horrible to drive.
It is stunningly pretty, but no fun at all.
Handling is rubbish, engines are slow. All of them. I test drove them all.
I was heartbroken.
It is not a drivers car.
But... I then went for some other test drives and bought the S.

Yup, I was so tempted to get a Brera while looking last year, but was put off by the awful driving reviews - and they are holding their value rediculously well which meant I couldn't afford the bigger engined one.
Such a shame. Such beauty, but no ability.

s2kscot who I don't think views this forum anymore bought a 3.2 Spider to replace his S, but he is a big Alfa fan.
He seemed to keep up with us lot in S2000's on a meet, but he was probably the best driver of the bunch there, and I think he mentioned that he was struggling a little powerwise at times.
Lovely car to look at and be in, but it is "lardy", and with 4wd I'm not sure I would choose it ahead of an S myself.

FWD.
Weighs far too much.
Inefficient engine.
On plus side it's the best looking roadster on the road IMO.
I would have one in a flash if it weight less than 1500kg and was RWD.

3.2 V6 Q4 is AWD Moff
Standard one is FWD.
IIRC the Q4 Torsen system is like Haldex (but better) so the car drives FWD unless additional traction is needed.

I too was gutted, I had decided on a Brera S last year. Drove the 2.2 which simply didn't have enough power and the 3.2 which was too heavy and did about 18MPG.
There was no way to fit the kids in either (it would only have been for occasional trips) - 1 yes...2 no.
I, very sadly, walked away.......

I couldn't get it back to the dealer quick enough.
The 1995-2000 'Lude pisses over it from such a great height in every department, it's incredible.
The Spider's a flimsier excuse, IYSWIM...
Oddly, people say the 159's a lot better drive.
