Advisory speed limit signs
On my travels today I saw some 40 "Advisory speed limit" signs, and I was wondering what these are all about.
What's the speed limit on this road, if the advisory limit is 40? Does this mean I can do 50 or above???
If you've not seen them, they are your normal circluar speed sign, but in yellow and black with the advisory speed limit (in this case 40) and the wording "Advisory speed limit".

I regularly take an s-bend on an NSL road with a recommended speed of 30 at 110.
In fact, every speed limit is only a recommendation AFAIC (with the exception of those in built up areas) so who cares?
