Just got back from driving the Woodhead now. Had heard it had recently been resurfaced from a lass i know who commutes along it each day. Had a good blast & it is much improved, still some traffic on it especially the heavies but overtaking chances are better than on Snake.
Had to pull in to the picnic area approx 4m from Glossop for a slash & there was a guy there with a recovery truck off loading a very dirty Rover & Pug 307 Cab. He was writing a docket & sticking it on the windscreens so i asked him he was taking them away. He was dropping them off & invited me to look inside. The drivers side windows had been put through & there was mud & foul smelling sludge to a height over the seat base in each one. The recovery guy was ferrying them from Sheffielf to the picnic area car park from where a transporter was picking them up to take to a scrap disposal area in Blackpool. He said he had done 42 return trips with 2x cars per trip since Monday. Hadn't been home in all that time either & was relishing the overtime payments!!
