z4 revised base model for 06'
I was wondering since the base BMW z4 is now a 3.0i for 35k if any s2k members have compared the two cars. With the added torque & HP It should be close since they were close with the 2.5.

It now uses the same engines as are in the e90, there isnt a 2.5 anymore, just a 3.0 and a 3.0si (eg 215hp, and 255hp)
--
exactly.. so now the detuned 3.0i is the base engine but, has more power than the 2.5 before it. The high HP model is the 3.0si.

2006 3.0i - 215hp, 185lb-ft
2005 3.0i - 225hp, 214lb-ft
I suspect the new base model will be very similar to the old 3.0i, if slightly slower. How did the old 225hp model compare to the S2000?

performance wise it falls in between the 2.5i and the old 3.0i
much improved than teh 2.5i
the new 3.0i is clsoe in hp, but as you pointed out lacks tq, and so is ~half a second slower to 60 than is the outgoing 3.0i
the 3.0si should finally be noticably faster than the s2k (for a $10k price premoum + options i'd hope so )

How in the world did BMW take a 3.0L motor and detune it to only give 185 torque? That's really weak.

i guess since they didn't/coudn't bring the new 2.5L to North America, they wanted equal performance to it (oddly the euro 2.5L produces equal power), hence the '25' bdage on the '3er...

Steve C"They didn't it has 215hp -- no idea where that 185 number came from, but it's wrong."

I'm sure at a glance you see that you two are talking about different things.. It has 215hp and 185tq.
