No offense, but you've got a pretty fundamental disconnect with the $80k sports car market if you think those buyers are cross-shopping modded Mk. IV Supras.
LOL!

That, and there's a seriously limited supply of them, which drives up the cost on a dated GT. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind owning a 4G Supra, but there's no way, even being $30-40k cheaper, that I'd take it over a Z06 for the money. The Z06 will be stock and built off a reliable V8. The modded Supra will be less reliable than stock because of the mods. No modded car is going to outlast one that was designed as a whole unit by a team of engineers that have been working on the same car for decades. And who do you take a modded car to to get stuff fixed when it breaks?

But you're dragging (hehe, pun) me into yet another stock vs. modded argument.

As far as 4 cams go, Chevy hasn't had a problem selling the OHV Vette in over 50 years, and trends seem to indicate that success will continue. Cams add weight and size to the engine. They certainly don't seem to aid MPG much at all at the price point we're talking. Even a 500hp Z06 is likely to be more fuel efficient than any of its competitors (the NSX doesn't count, simply as a means of avoiding stupid arguments ).

That magazine chart does make things plain to see, even if the new Z06's stats are estimated. Based on past history, it's a pretty safe bet the Z06 will be cheaper than all its primary rivals.

The NSX is straight pimping. I'd take one over all cars under $100K.

Even this 8 yr-old NSX from nsxprime.com looks so freaking nice!

Having worked at GM Powertrain Division some time ago I'd have no problems purchasing the Z06 for the powertrain. What I'm concerned about is the 'intangibles' that steve c speaks of. Namely the quality of the interior materials, the sound of the door closing, general fit and finish as well as steering feel, brake feel and chassis balance.

I may get flamed for this, but I'd pick an NSX-T over a C6 Z06 anyday.
Lay off the crack

btw, I hope to keep my NSX, and add the z06 to my collection.

If I am spending anywhere near $80,000 for a supposed pure sports car, I want it to either have true status, or a sub 13.0 1/4 I would take a maserati coupe over both, even though the Z06 is well faster. But the Maserati is a GT, more status.

I have a friend who is planning to wait two years to buy a used Z06. With the way a vette depreciates he is thinking he can have a low mileage 2 year old Z06 for less than $50K. Spend another $6K on HCI and have 650hp on pump gas. Imagine, instant torque and great handling. Who can argue with that? BTW he currently drives a 1000hp supra, when it runs between engine rebuilds.

I'm with you here, an NSX-T over the C6 Z06?????? Another point I've noticed while being a part time lurker on this board is that LOTS of you guys are reasonable and give the Vette props, unlike MOST other import boards. Anyways, I can't wait to replace my 02 Z06, if the price is under $70K I'm definitely in! Now black or yellow or silver? Life is hard sometimes.

Like I said, I'd pick an NSX over a Z06 anyday. Put them next to each other, and the NSX would look much better. NSX is more user-friendly too. So that's my pick. You power-hungry guys can pick a Z06, but for me, I like the overall package of an NSX.
