What are your NC lap times compared to you driving an S2000?

What about your NC lap times compared to you driving an S2000 with 255 R6s?

If we took your logic and applied it to something like autocross, 89 Honda Civics would be magical destroyers of Dodge Vipers....

Who said I compared to a stock S2000? My first S had a Vortech S/C. My 2nd one had Koni/GC coilovers, HKS exhaust, and track pads. Both had 17" Volks (the light ones) w/ wider tires and a Spoon X-brace.

BTW, I also drove a 986 Boxster S on the track yesterday, but I won't compare it since you said I can't b/c it's stock.

I honestly don't know how my lap times would compare - I used to do pretty well at the track w/ both my S2000's. Obviously I'd be faster in a dialed-in S2000 w/ R6's...but obviously I didn't pick the Miata b/c it's the fastest car around. Here's what did it for me:
- lightest prod. sportscar that's not fragile and doesn't require gymnastics to get in and out of
- you can put in a rollbar w/o compromising seat travel or tearing up the interior
- consumables, parts (OEM and aftermarket), and insurance are CHEAP => more tracktime.

I looked for an S2000 CR at the same time, and might have bought one had I been able to find the right deal on a blue or white one, but I'd been there/done that w/ 2 S2000's. I'm enjoying the variety for now, but I wouldn't rule out getting back into another S2000 down the road. Though I may be tempted w/ FI on the NC first...

Hmmm well I remember being very disappointed when I test drove a new Miata in 2007 or 2008. Suspension was very soft and the car was a bit boring.

I guess coilovers transform the car.

^^^ Correct. Mazda really screwed the pooch w/ the NC suspension tuning, but underneath lies a great chassis. I'm not going to say much nice about a stock NC, b/c they're way too soft and choked up as delivered. Honda did a much better job delivering a factory sports car, but the benefit w/ the Mazda being soft is much lower insurance, theft, and vandalism rates.

I can attest to the inherent goodness of Chris S' modded NC Miata. I rode with him for a session at a recent Harris Hill Road track day and his car just flat sticks and has incredible balance through the corners. Braking is also very stout, extremely impressive considering the stock hardware he is running in the brake department.

The only minor gripe I could possibly have is the relative lack of power, but even the power is pretty impressive considering the basically stock powertrain of the car and the fact there was 450-500lbs of lead in his car with both of us in it.
