Are you a Corvette guy or a 911 guy?

I loved Porsches as a kid and would still have to go with the 911 if given the choice and price was not a factor. I really like what they have done with the latest redesign of the 911. GM has also done an admirable job with the C6, though I still haven't gotten used to the front of the C6. I just don't like it. It looks like a big goofy grin.

Well, this is interesting. Over the course of my entire life I have never liked Porsche. I cannot stand the way they look. It always looked like a sporty VW. I prefer my sports car to be longer and sleaker. The Boxster is less offensive looking, but only in that it bores me. There isn't a single Porsche that I even have the slightest interest in owning at any price (Carrera GT included).
I have never like the Vette....until the C6. My signature will probably tell/show you the rest of the story.

I think threads like this just show how much buying a sportcar is an emotional decision. We can blab all we want about performance vs. price etc etc. But, ultimately, you buy a sports car for the silly grin it puts on your face. Maybe the sound of a roaring 6L pushroad V-8 does it for you, or a cammy flat-6...it doesn't make either person more right

I like the fact I can turn the Vette into a 475rwhp N/A monster with the ability to turn. Then again, I am a 19 year old camaro driver. The only porsche I drove was a Boxter and thought it was as interesting as differential statistics. I have driven the C6 and its one of my fondest memories ever, love that car. I like the look of the vette over the 911, the swoopy body and stealth body lines are very sexy. But the fact that the 911 is a porsche and the panties drop for it, is a very wonderful thing. Both interiors do nothing for me. the sound of a pushrod V8 is intoxicating. i like the keyless function of the vette a lot. above all is the price of a vette, at 43K, thats a steal! Im sorry but that is more in my reach and that makes my dreams turn into reality.
vette for me, but this is from a camaro fan, so take it with a grain of salt.

no matter how you look at it name does mean something...if McDonald's came out with the best burger tomorrow it'd still be associated with greasy, nasty fast good.
too bad somebody else didn't make the vette..i actually like the way they look.

I haven't driven either the C6 or the 997. I have driven C5 Z06 and 996 tt and 996 C4S and am impressed with all three.
The Z06 vette (to me) was the most fun to accelerate in. And that was with just 405hp.
The 911s i drove both had awd so (IMO) they were a little less fun to accelerate in b/c they very little wheel spin maybe too much of a good thing (grip).
Also the tt seemed to need shifting before I was wanting to, ie hit the rev limiter too soon. Maybe I'm just tunned to the S2000 where you have to wait to shift. For some reason the Vette fit my expectations better.
Interior both were just so-so but the p-cars were obviously nice finished but the Vette had better gauges.
To me the 911s were not as exciting but probably easier to live with day in day out.
IMO the 911s are getting close to being too comfortable that is closer to a M3 not as much of a sports car as they have been in the past. For that reason I think the Cayman may be a big hit, back to sports car roots

For me, it would be the 911, hands down.
At this point in my life, I am able to appreciate the true differences in these vehicles. And yes, I have driven both the new C6 and the new 997, back-to-back no less - My Review of the C6 versus the 997. Years ago, this would have not been such an easy decision.
This situation is equivalent to my automotive tastes maturing, allowing me to acquire more sophisticated tastes of automotive flavors.
Think about when you were a kid and you did not know any better when it came to picking your meal. You would choose a McDonald's hamburger over a Ruth's Chris Fillet. It took you years of maturing and trying different foods before you could begin to appreciate the differences. As you acquired more and more sophisticated tastes, you could tell the difference between a well-prepared steak at Ruth's Chris and a pepper steak from O'Charley's. Of course, not everyone can appreciate, or admit to appreciating, those differences. Nor can we all afford to eat at Ruth's Chris chop house everyday. Similarly, there are Corvette owners and Porsche owners.
That is how I see people that buy Corvettes. They have yet to aquire more sophisticated automotive tastes or they simply can not afford/justify/understand/admitt the Porsche difference.
Truth be told here, you do get what you pay for. Additionally, there are simply large numbers of people that will accept the compromises and buy the "close substitute".
For the rest of us, there is Porsche.
