depends what your looking for. 335 is still somewhat sporty. The A6 is boring but very very very comfortable and a fantastic boring DD.

2 different cars. 335i is in S4 category, A6 is in 535xi. A6 is AWD, 335i is RWD.

Jag only certifies 3 years back. Personally, I would rather not have it certified and keep the money my pocket. Nor would I get an aftermarket warranty either. I an aftermarket on my first Jag and I just broke even. On my current Jag I did not get one and so far that money has stayed in my pocket. I don't service my car at the deal, there are a few indy Jag repair shops near my house. One is walking distance.

335i

Because available with manual.
Can't buy an A6 with a manual?

If used, I buy a BMW. Audi's aren't designed for the long haul (IMO). Maintenance costs will be an issue at some point. Neither car is getting me excited. How about a Jaguar XF or Infiniti M?

I think the M car is boring personally. But probably more reliable than either German.

My question is why is the OP cross shopping the A6 vs the 335. The A6 is much larger and less sporty due to it's size. Are you looking for luxury "sport" cruiser, or are you looking for more of a sports sedan?

Reason for this comparison is because I personally don't like the looks of A4/S4 and the bmw 5 series look so big and bulky. I much prefer the looks of A6 and the size of 335i over 5 series.
I'm looking for more of a luxury cruiser that is sporty but something that I can keep for very long time.
I've been a 5 series fan for a long time but the new F10 5 series is so big! and so bulky looking. On the other hand A6 size is just right for my taste

i drove 2013 S4 and A6 with 3.0 Supercharged engine in both cars. they were my dealer loaner cars and both are freaking awesome cars. I love S4's sporty characteristics. from the engine sound to stiff suspension. it was on point every aspect of the car. then i had A6. what a fantastic car. very comfortable daily car. it's got 8 speed automatic transmission and that thing is so awesome. you can cruise on highway at 80mph and your rpm will be around 1700rpm. only thing i didn't like about the A6 was the suspension. it's perfect for that car but it's just too soft for my taste. and A6 isn't much bigger than S4 either. just slightly. if you don't mind soft suspension definitely go test drive the A6. that 3.0 supercharged engine got some balls. it is very fast. Definitely go test drive A6 and S4.

Both Audi and BMW's designs get out dated very quick. I don't think either are good cars for someone who wants to keep them for a long time. Not only that, most can tell quite easily what year or era their cars are from. Too me, a long term keeper must have styling that is timeless and doesn't age like produce. Porsche, Jaguar, and Volvo are three that get the design right, from the beginning.

I'd rather have an A7 over an A6, but either way would have to replace the "A" w/ an "S".

I love the S6 by the way but not sure if I can afford it in the next few years.

By the way, I have a 80 mile round trip commute to work everyday. LA to OC so that's about 500 miles a week. Are any of these German cars like Audi and bmw be okay in the long run when I rack up my mileage fast? I always had Japanese cars so I am not sure how German cars are in the long run I only "hear" they aren't as reliable.

Which model years are you looking at? Will it be an only car? How attached, if at all, are you to a manual transmission?
