Totally agree on your choice(s).
NSX - good luck finding one for a reasonable price.
Supra - good luck finding one for a resonable price that hasn't been totally abused / or fast 'n' furiously modded.
LS1 - should be able to find a good one for a good price.
I'd stay as far away as possible on the rx7's, 300z's and especially any mitsus.

Personally, I think the VR4 is much less of a car than the S. My guess is if you drop the S for a VR4, you'll regret it. The VR4 is heavy, ponderous, and FWD mostly as stated before. I have no idea about reliability since it seems to be going either way with others here, but I would think it to be more expensive simply because there's more stuff to go wrong. I'd stick with a seasoned RWD 4 roadster myself.
If I did drop the S, I would probably get a 300ZX to modify. Ya they are a dime a dozen, but Supras IMO are getting really overrated, and it'll likely cost you double as much to pick up ANY Supra versus a nice 300ZX. RX-7s are great, but the obvious has been stated. A nice MR2 would be good...if you can find one. They've seemingly become extinct where I am.
But I don't know your style, so this is all conjecture on my part. =\

I second the MR2 turbo. Affordable, light, fast, easy to mod, and has a T-top! They seem to be pretty much bulletproof, and they look like a tiny NSX to boot.

I would never think about getting rid of the S for a VR4. They are heavy and become very unreliable when modded. I have two friends that have them and they wish they never bought them.

I remeber the interior of the 3000GT as being very busy - digital pictograms for the A/C, and lots of tiny little buttons. Since I have never driven one, I can't really comment on the driving experience (the mags say its heavy, but that may be relative - it probably outmaneuvers a pony car in the twisties). However, if I was shopping for one, I might be leery of all the electric gizmos that the VR4 had - adjustable front and rear wings, 4-wheel steering (I'd also worry about the 300ZX Super HICAS system) and the multitude of other complex electrical systems tha are now 10-15 years old. They are a bargain compared to its peers for a reason.
I wouldn't mind a Supra TT or NSX. Even looked for a Supra before buying my S2000. It was impossible to find an unmolested one. While I'm not averse to mods for a car, I don't know the quality of workmanship. The one TT that I wanted was located a continent away in Virginia, a silver '98 TT still with Factory Warranty! hey wanted $48,000. both of these ars are fast, agile, and really reliable. And because of that, they are also very expensive.
For less than the other two, I would consider a '95-'97 993 911. They are the last of the air cooled (and the best looking, IMHO) and one of the most reliable sports cars ever. They have their quirks, and need careful maintenance, but you do get a great car for the price.
