Default Which is worse, oil underfill or oil overfill

Which is worse (generally): Filling a 6.1qt crankcase with 7.5 quarts (possibly leading to foaming) or filling a 7.5qt crankcase with 6.1 quarts (possible reduced heat capacity or starvation (although i doubt it))?

In case it matters, this is in a lightly-turbocharged engine (a 2.5L I5).

Underfill is always better than overfill, unless it's to a point that there's not enough oil to lubricate. The lesson: always fill accordingly.

overfill is deadly. crank slings oil, aerating it, and then as the bubbles go through the pump, they pop, resulting in yep, you guessed it, almost no oil in the pump. the pump overheats, and the ensuing expansion causes metal to metal contact, removing vital clearance from the pumps impellers. well, all is fine that run, soon as it cools, next time you start it, as it warms up, bam, zero oil pressure. the pump has too much internal clearance to move oil volume. and if not repaired properly, engine failure is not far off.

thank you drive through. dave

People overfill the evo when they are tracking hard because of starvation issues. Like most blanket statements their is no right answer.
