Which is worse (generally): Filling a 6.1qt crankcase with 7.5 quarts (possibly leading to foaming) or filling a 7.5qt crankcase with 6.1 quarts (possible reduced heat capacity or starvation (although i doubt it))?
In case it matters, this is in a lightly-turbocharged engine (a 2.5L I5).

overfill is deadly. crank slings oil, aerating it, and then as the bubbles go through the pump, they pop, resulting in yep, you guessed it, almost no oil in the pump. the pump overheats, and the ensuing expansion causes metal to metal contact, removing vital clearance from the pumps impellers. well, all is fine that run, soon as it cools, next time you start it, as it warms up, bam, zero oil pressure. the pump has too much internal clearance to move oil volume. and if not repaired properly, engine failure is not far off.
