Window motor/regulator replacement, dealership wants me to bend over!
Sorry didn't know whether to post this in Under the Hood or not, it has to do with my girlfriend's '95 Camry. The passenger side window stopped working a few days ago, so I took apart the door panel, only to find something was definitely broken and/or burned out with the motor. So I reassembled the door and took it to the Toyota place her family swears by.
Two hours and $80 later, I'm told that it needs a new window motor/regulator assembly, which will cost $389!!! This in a car that's worth probably not more than 5 or 6 grand at this point (104,000 miles on the clock). So total cost of the repair would be upwards of $500, should we utilize that shop, don't think we will.
Does anybody have experience replacing power window motors in any cars? Is it something I could do, meaning I wouldn't require any specialized tools? I'm thinking buy a motor/regulator assembly from a Toyota parts place somewhere and just do the work myself.
Please anyone with advice chime in.
Thanks in advance-

Buy the Hayes or Chilton book for the car. It will tell you how to do it and is a good reference to have around anyways. Then go to an import junkyard in your area and grab one from a wrecked Camry. It's the best selling car in America or Second best, it should be easy to find replacement parts

I did one in A Nissan 240 that I bought used a few years back. Got it at a local salvage yard for $75, took about 45 minutes to replace (very easy job) and it worked perfectly up until the day that the door collided with a telephone pole at 45mph.
