Default Wider tires and effects on handling

Hey guys, after taking a quick glance at a post a little down the list I thought of my own question.

Now when you get aftermarket wheels, wider wheels, and slap some wider tires on it while still keeping the inch or inch and a half between front and rears, would the wider tires give you better grip and corner speeds?

Also I believe the AP1 has a 1.5inch difference between front and rear. The AP2 has a 1inch difference, what would be better off for someone deciding to get new wheels/tires? Thanks in advance!

absolutely, you get better grip with wider tires... infact, wider tires are the most significant thing that can give you more grip...

wider wheels means you can fit wider tires... the width of the tires is the only thing that matters... AP2 wheels can accomodate wider tires...

Yes. Wider tires improve grip, and stiffer sidewalls improve turn-in feel.

However, HEAVIER tires will negatively effect handling to a degree. That said, it is normally compensated for by increased grip.

very cool. thought so. anyway does this mean wider tires=heavier and they cancel eachother out? so your pretty much back to point A?

And just so you know, AP2 has 1.5 inch difference in wheel widths from the factory.

As a very general rule a wider tire will improve grip but will hurt

Its so interesting how 911's have the widest tires i've ever seen on a mass production cars. They look like bullfrogs. They look nice as hell too.
