Why are there 300k preorders for a Tesla 3, but only sold 200k Leafs after 5 years?

The first generation Leaf only got something like 60 miles per charge, right? Most people I have heard say that is far too little to be a serious replacement for a primary vehicle. The 100 mile range was only recent. I also don't know of anyone that thinks the Leaf looks desirable at all. Not knocking it, but I personally am not attracted to it. Tesla has a good charging network (at least here in CA) and has the range to handle about 99% of my lifestyle. Oh yea and it looks sexy.
It is the size of what I normally drive for a DD, a 5dr hatchback. I haven't had any issues doing what I did in my STi hatch, countless Honda's or Acuras, my TDi, same ol same ol. And it is my primary vehicle.
I think people fear what they do not understand and many don't understand electric vehicles. It took me about 30-45 days to adapt and that was mainly due to only having the Nissan supplied 110 charger. I mounted a $500 240v wall charger in the garage and all that was history.
For my needs 150 range and I'll never give any of the charging fodder another thought. 215 is plenty because I've made 84 work.

It is ugly as sin, but that's also great because nobody gives it a second glance or much cares. Incognito. If it were expensive, not a chance in hell. But Nissan blew the leases out at $199 a month and gave you 2 years free public charging. If they do this again on the all new one that is due soon, I might cancel my Tesla order. It's a DD after all, not your weekend ride(s)!
And yeah I don't give a flying F. I care about my performance vehicles in my garage, not my DD. I'd drive a Yaris for a DD if they were $149 a month!

For a short while here in CA they were giving away the Fiat 500e for $79 per month or something close to that ridiculous number. Same range looks cooler - I almost got one but couldn't justify paying insurance on a "toy" car which we really didn't need.

It purely comes down to two things in my opinion; range and looks. The Nissan whilst essentially did it first for the masses with charging networks being rolled out over the UK, EUROPE and USA the tesla will offer better range, better looks and a better drive.
I still can't get over how ugly the leaf is and I see over 30 at work everyday.
