A base Cayman is what you compromise to instead of a Cayman S.
That's probably the truth right there. I just have an ideological objection to buying the entry level engine option of any car and really you're only saving about $5k with the non-S once you add the 18" wheels back in.

I know, I know, I'm saying "I want something cheaper!" but then I'm not willing to give anything up.

Overpriced is the main reason.

you can probably snag a 2008 IS-F, M3, C63, or an older RS4 for that price... and it will be way more fun.

I think it looks beautiful, especially when you see one on the road next to you. That car looks freaking stylish when it's rolling on the highway.

Only problem with that car is the existence of the base Cayman for the same price.

The Cayman looks better, handles better, feels better, is lighter, just as comfortable, as fast if not faster, brakes better, etc...

$45k seems like a lot, but then it's only $10k more than an S2000 CR and about $20k less than a similarly-optioned CS (Porsche options are *insane*).
Pssst. There was a local new CR selling for $27,500....

I'd rather have a (new) CR + $17k (towards a 4-door beater) than get a TT-S.

I'd rather have a (new) CR + $37k than get a (new) CS.

Did you know used RS4s are going for <$40k?

IMHO, CR + RS4 FTW.

I think they have the 2.0T with the K04 turbo? (same as GTI but bigger turbo/intercooler and stronger internals). If so, and if you're into modding, just a chip takes those things to like 310hp and 330 lb/ft torque.

Except that it's not really the same price in the end, which is the problem I keep running into. The base prices may be close, but the base TT-S comes with all of the equipment I'd care about, whereas the Porsche would take $5-10k extra (or more if you count the DSG tranny) to get the same level of equipment -- and the gap grows with any additional options.

I hear what you're saying though, especially about the performance...

I would much rather have a CPO Cayman S for less than the new TT-S.

You're correct if you consider DSG an "automatic". I have no problem with DSG though; if it was slushbox-only, that would be a different story.
