Huh? If your coming outside, you wouldn't be between the door and another car, you would be coming from the INSIDE of the car. That pic actually shows that the doors don't go out that much when fully opened

One reason they don't use them for everyday cars is obvious- cost. But after the lessons learned with DeLorean, they can be dangerous particularly if the car were to flip over or if the jaws of life were necessary.
Lambo kits are a bad idea, although imho they do look awesome on some cars. Problem is that I've seen far too many at bodyshops on cars whose doors no longer close properly.
