Default Why not "auto-x" for bikes?

Everytime I do to auto-x I think that it could be really fun to run a street bike thru the same kind of cone course.

Just some knee dragging fun.

Has this been done before?

krazik; You know now that you mention it, I've never heard of it either. I bet it would take a lot of practice to be any good at. Do you really think it would be possible to drag a knee?

Most of the Auto-X courses they do around here, IMHO, would suck on a motorcycle.

Now I wish I had the courage to do some real track work with the bike. For some reason, I am fearless when tracking my car, but wont even consider taking the bike out on the track...

I don't think a typical auto-x course would translate well to bikes. Most of them seem to have very abrupt transitions (like U-turns/pirouettes) requiring lots of tire abuse. On a bike, that means slowing to a crawl or sliding enough to risk a high side. It would be fun on a YSR, though!

Obviously the course would have to be changed some to suit bikes.

Oddly enough, I'm fine with taking my bike on the track, but I'm scared to drive my car.

Ever see the BattleTrax (sp?) competitions? Sounds exactly like what you're looking for. Look for them at Buell gatherings.

This is a common event at all World Police/Fire games. It's a timed event for most of it but due to the types of exercises, slow speed control is a must. Slow straight line balance, tight turns, slaloms, emergency braking, etc. All to test the riders clutch/throttle/brake control and balance. The bike cops usually clean up at these things because they ride their hogs 10 hours a day. They get to ride their service bikes so it's kinda in their favour. The rest of us bring our own machines. The last one I was in:
1st - cop
2nd - cop
3rd - me
4th - cop
5th - prison guard
