I'm pretty sure a '98 911 will kill a stock NSX of the same year.
Kill is subjective -- but yes the 911 of comparitive year has always been quicker than the NSX on the track and in most measures of performance. The Supra ... RX-7 .... same deal.

Performance for dollar spent is not the appeal of the NSX. A rare vehicle made of unusual materials and perhaps ahead of its time at inception is ...

For the SAME money, I chose my 2002 NSX over a 2002 911 C4S, and everyday I wake up Im thankful that I did.
Curious, why AWD vs RWD?

But have you driven either a Cayman S or a 3.2L NSX. I have and while I freely admit that the P car is a nicer and arguably better car, I don't think it's worth the $30K + premium over what I paid for my NSX. And as I've said a few times, I know the magazines will show it being quicker (and it probably is), it doesn't feel as quick, nor does it feel as raw and visceral to drive. To some, that's not important but just as I loved the way the S2K felt connected to the road and the driver, that's important to me.
They are both overpriced for the performance you get. The difference is, with the NSX you benefit from a great resale value.

If it was a 355 Vs. NSX 3.2 debate then you would have a good discussion.

A 348 Vs. NSX for $48k is a not even close IMHO. Then again I am a bit biased.
I agree, but then again, I doubt you can find an F355 for $48k.

In my dreams the first Ferrari I would buy would be a Testarossa. When I was a kid it was the most coolest car in the world to me. You could get a Testarossa for 'bout 50K nowadays. Unless you get one of the newer ones which would still be about 80K.

where do you get the $30 K more for a Cayman S, last time i checked a newer model NSX is not far from a new Cayman's msrp. Now if your talking about earlier model ones then yea but then buying a new Cayman S will be even more attractive.

Good question and I dont have a good answer. Most I can say is that my car purchases are driven by emotion, and the Carerra does nothing for me, while the C4S does more. I just find the base so boring (probably because they're EVERWHERE). NSXs and F355s do, but Id quickly hate the F355 as I want to drive the car daily as my principal transportation. The first time it gave me a headache Id hate it.

Since that time Ive realized that I should have been looking at a different slate of cars. Im still happy with my choice, but I definately should have looked at 911TTs. Thats a car that can stir shit up!

My posts were specific that I was talking about my 1998 3.2L NSX-T vs. a new Cayman S. The $30K difference is based on what Newport Autosport would give me as a trade in on my car and the price they'd be willing to sell me a new Cayman S (arctic silver, sport seats, Xenon's, sport shifter and Bose stereo).

I think that depends on how you define performance. If you're talking about pure numbers then yes. Just about any numb nutts in a brand new EVO can proably smoke me in acceleration. And he/she would be in a brand new car for a lot less coin than what I paid for my now 8-year old NSX. But I wouldn't drive an EVO for all the tea in China and frankly to me, there's more to enjoying a drive than pure numbers.

But again, that's just me and everyone has their own priorities.
