might be a stupid question. But why does a car drive slower and weaker when the a/c is on?
When ever I go test drive cars even when its hot i turn the ac off. Haha the salesmen gets hot

More drivetrain loss because you're using the engine to drive other things?
I think some cars temporarily suspend the AC when at WOT.

I had a HUGE friend bum a ride to get gas one time. I couldn't let go of the clutch starting out until around 1500-2000rpm :0! Good thing I didn't have to take him far or he would have ruined my seats.

as i recall the early cars actually had a passenger weight limit (in the manual)... dont recall what it was, and never been a problem for me-
do the new cars have a weight limit in the manual??
(and to answer the original question, its cause the a/c compressor is not engaged with the a/c is off and it is when the a/c is on- so you will notice a drop in power with it on... just another reason to never put the top up!!)
