Default When shifting at high RPMs and...

lets say close to the redzone...from 1st to 2nd gear..
is it normal for the car to jerk if you don't shift fast enough?
I'm getting used to my new car (has turbo) and when I try to shift close to redzone or couple thousand above normal range and just shift casually (slow) the car jerks somewhat between the transition..

is this because I'm not shifting fast enough? I guess it's because the RPM decreases while i'm shifting? so if I shift faster I could reduce the jerk?
(i'm shifting correctly like the clutch and accel work is fine..I think it's how quickly/slowly I'm shifting..I don't have to worry about this when I'm shifting at like 3000..

If you don't shift fast enough you will feel a jerk motion. Weight transfer from the rear of the car to the front.

If you take too long to shift (or hold the clutch in long before suddenly releasing it), the car will jerk. The problem is the engine RPM's drop far below the "ideal" zone of what the transmission is currently spinning at when you take too long to engage the next gear.

that's what I thought..I was being careful with my new car trying to shift slowly even at high RPMs...I guess the more aggressive I am the faster I should shift..

to keep the car from jerking, you need to slip the clutch and use the throttle to let the engine speed match the gear speed.

You aren't being "aggressive" if you aren't shifting fast. And shifting fast isn't harder on your trans than shifting slow - it might be easier, as you are finding out.

Its about whether the revs match from gear to gear. Some cars, like the s2000, will jerk if you shift too slow (rpms drop too much). Most cars require feathering, especially when rpms drop slowly when you press the clutch.

Almost ALL cars will jerk if you shift too fast. Watch videos of the Ferrari F430 shift on the fastest mode; the tires chirp.

And like teh Raiders he's messing it up, lol, sorry, couldn't resist.
Aaaaanyway, I typically rev match slightly to be smoother (can't really explain it well) cuz I really granny shift when I'm not driving fast and those rpms drop rather quick.
What kind of turbo fwd car do you have btw?
