when changing wheels by hand
when changin wheels by hand, lets say if your putting on your spare tire.
how tight do you have to screw the lug nuts in? Should i really stand there smashing in the wrench with my feet? or should i tighten as much as possible with my hands?
i heard it only needs so much of torque. but i get worried the wheels might fall off if the mechanic doesnt do it with his power tool.

lol i think hes question is pertaining to when your changing a tire on the side of the road (spare tire) and you dont carry around a torque wrench.
80ftlbs is recommended which isnt TOO tight, i get them pretty tight with my hand/arms but not to the extent to kick the wrench lol

90lb/ft with an actual torque wrench is ridiculously easy to tighten. if you are using a breaker bar or something I dont think you need to tighten as much as possible, its very easy to over torque lugnuts. just make sure its pretty tight and requires a decent pull to make it any tighter.

Grab a torque wrench, grab it by the handle at the same distance from the lug where you would grab your manual wrench, and get a good feel of how much force you're using to reach 80 ft-lbs.

If you have the OEM "tool kit" lug wrench (about 12 inches) and you lean on it without forcing, that's ~80ft lbs if you're not a lard ass.
"Mechanic" shops sometimes tighten lugs in excess of ~150ft lbs and snappo! There goes your stud.
