My brother's old starter handmedown car is a POS 94 Pontiac Grand Prix. We're about to put it up on autotrader for 500 bucks or so, but i'm trying to diagnose the problem. When they put water in the motor, it empties within 10 minutes and overheats when driving. We think it's the water pump. Sound about right?

well, it would certainly help to watch where the water is going. Say, where it comes out. If the radiator isn't leaking, and none of the hoses are leaking, and the water is running out on the ground from some part attached to the engine, it is probably the water pump. No big deal, and a common replacement part on any car. The factory part will, under normal use, typically last over 100,000 miles, but that doesn't mean you should never expect to replace it.
