That's the first one that came to mind. I wonder how many people here have never even seen one of these critters.

It's goofy looking.
Other than that, I see X90s maybe 5 times a year. I actually see more Isuzu Vehicrosses than X90s
OK fine, I'll give the Celica All-TRAC a pass, but that's it!

I know it will be unpopular, but I gotta go with the 93-95 Mazda RX-7. It looks great on paper. But its horrendous reliability is primarily due to bad engineering compromises in the design.

For me, "worst" means either a piece of junk or a car that just is not marketed well and evokes a "huh?" from buyers.
If you're talking current worst Japanese car, I'd give the nod to hmm......either the Mitsu Montero Sport, Mitsu Freelander, or Mitsu Lancer (sub-EVO models). I will say though that the current B-rev of the Lancer looks FAR better than the A-rev wannabe.
I would also agree that Isuzu might as well quit with the consumer market crap and focus on commercial trucks instead.
Past worst-Japanese-cars include:
Tercel
Paseo
Suzuki X90
80s AWD Civic tall wagon
Del Sol
Any Celica after 85 and before 2000
NX1600/2000
Pulsar
Those crappy tall-econowagon thingies Mitsu used to make with the DSM pact
That Toyota boxvan from the 80s
That Mitsu boxvan from the 80s
I'm sure there are a few more that I'm forgetting.

Well if you do business travel you occasionally arrive at the rental counter late and the Gold-Diamond-Platinum Club whatever uprades do not prevent you from driving home in the worst POS they have sitting on the lot. The base Mitsubishi Lancer is the WORST car I have ever driven, worse even than the Chevy Cavalier which is saying a lot. In fact I got my second base Lancer last week in Boston. With 4,000 miles on it, everything felt like it was shot, engine, brakes, suspension, seats, even the shite AM/FM radio.
Never buy a base Mitsu Lancer - that is the moral of the story.
