Whats the truth? Which is faster?
I hear people say that the higher hp and lower torque 350z's are faster than previous models. And I hear that they are slower. Which is it? 1/4, highway speeds, etc.

I don't think it really matters. Some people are driving 400+ hp 350Zs. My point is, if a car has 287hp or 298 hp it's the same car, unless the gearing has changed it's probably not dramatically faster or slower.
Furthermore, does it matter? Does being a bit quicker mean anything? Does it mean anything if your car is quicker or slower than another car?
Gosh there is more to life than 1/4 mile time or 0-60 time or dollar per horsepower etc.
A SRT-Neon is quick for cheap, a Mustang or GTO has a lot of TQ for less or same money as a 350Z. It's not important.
IMO
I was reading EVO magazine and they were tearing the C6 vette to pieces. The bottom line they were trying to point out is, there is more to a car than high horse power or quick 0-60.
That's what I believe.

i love magazines!
from what I have gathered the new Z's have variable valve timing which means that they will respond better to mods than before. Not only that, but their top end is a bit better, so perhaps higher trap speeds with the same ET. I think a new Z from a roll would pull ever so slightly on an older one, but who knows, Im just making conjectures with that one.

The 2006 350Zs gained another 150 lbs., making them yet more rotund -- now even the hardtops are almost 3400 lbs. That's not going to help their acceleration...
