Electromagnetic selenoid valve operation. If we could replace camshafts and rocker arms with selenoids to operate the valves the possibilities would be endless. Just think of having an engine with COMPLELETLY variable lift and duration througout the entire rpm band. This would enable completely flat torque curves and hp curves that never fall off. If you can rev it you can make power to infinity. There would be no need for aftermarket support in terms of cams. You could completely change your cars performance through the ECU. I came up with and drew some basic designs for this a while back but apparently it is already under development.

next things are higher voltage electrical system (40V vs. 12V today) and CVTs.
