Its a wing Shiri. It provides downforce. Downforce helps the car lap faster. Despite whatever your boundless bench racing experience tells you, the real world track times say it is so. Maybe some day you'll actually get out there and lap a car and find out for yourself.

What the 'ell is that? LOOKS STUPID!
Hey Shiri,
The guys who's car that is (Doug H) though the same thing about that wing ... you should read some of his stories. That is until he found out that it's worth 2-3 secs cer lap. What you see in that pic is the fastest (moslty) 'stock' S2000 in the world. Of course the driver has a lot to do with it, but that car kicked some Viper butt on one of the track-events.
ps. That car is stock except for the slicks, big-arse wing, roll cage and heavier front sway-bar.
