Whats the best roadster ever made?
Sorry to copy the popular "Best Honda ever" idea..
Here's the criteria (so we don't have Carrera GT or F430 spider being picked)..by roadster I mean lightweight mass produced 2-seat vert.
I like to think of Roadster as a front engine rwd I4 car (a-la Miata) but I don't want to leave off the boxster (mid engine H6) or Vette/Viper (V8/V10), or SLK (heavy V6 or V8) or Z4 etc..
It's up to you if you want to pick a boxster as a roadster OK. I'd leave off the Elise b/c it's a targa (like the NSX-T).
For sake of fairness please consider price, we'd all probably say a Boxster S is better than a 1.6L miata..but it's price is 3x as much..

no one wants to start.
I'll pick:
Boxster S = best all around roadster ever
Miata = best pure roadster, affordable, light weight, fun, reliable etc..
S2000 = best of the rest. mid way between the Miata and the Boxster S
Sorry I don't have any experience with the older Brittish roadsters and early Porsches so I didn't include them in my pool of cars. Basically I was picking from cars out since the first gen Miata.

As nice as the older roadster classics are, technology marches on and produces better overall cars.
I agree with Rai's picks, though a nice SL55 would do the trick, though not be as involving as the Boxster, Miata, or S2000.

As much as I believe in technology, for some reason, i think this car is so cool
1955 Porsche Spider (James Dean's) "killer" car I think, maybe Steve C would know for sure
This 55 was at a car show I attended. ALL original!

MX-5 Miata...it is what it is, the roadster re-born.
