I used to have a 2000 S4 and also recently drove my friend's 2004 S4. Both are 6-speeds. The old S4 in stock form should be neck to neck with an S2000. The #s to 60mph and the qtr mile are almost identical. The new S4 is a bit quicker but not by much. Basically, it'll come down to the driver. The S4 will be more forgiving to launch but the S2000 is much, much easier to shift quickly in. Throws in the S4 are pretty long even with a short shifter. An old S4 running with a chip will be slightly faster than a new V8 S4.

I owned 2 S2ks and I test drove s4 once.. s4 is fast, goes fast, feels fast, road grip is superb.. overall I love s4..

it is not in your league unless you keep a c32 or m3 or anything above in your garage..

The V8 will win every time over the S. On the freeway. Even the mag gives the S4 a win. Look at the trap.

A very strange comparison. One is a 4 cyl, convertible two seater that weighs 2800 lbs. The other is a V8, 4 door sedan, with AWD that weigh 3800 lbs. In a straight line the S4 has proven to be slightly faster, but then again is this a real comparison ? I guess just sneak some exhaust, VAFC, CAI, etc. and you should be golden Or tell him that your car costs $35K, and his costs $45K, so if you can add a SC (and all the other stuff above) then it will be a fair race.

I hate $ to $ comparisons, but in this case it is a pretty lame comparison on the part of your friend. Tell him you will race the 1/4 mi. against him, if he will go to the track with you.
