They're changing it back??? WTF for? 'Golf' is a much better name than 'Rabbit'. Makes no sense to me.
You must be very young. Were you around when he Rabbit was new in N. America? The auto industry seems to have a fascination with nostalgia. Everything is going "retro". The name "Rabbit" was around way before "Golf" was in N. America. VW is counting on bringing back all those people who grew up with Rabbits and used them for all kinds of things. To a whole nation of "older" people, the Rabbit meant a lot of crazy, wonderful things. Unless you were there, you will never understand. To you, it's just another name, one that you compare the "sound" of it to other names.
The Europeans had always called the thing a "Golf". To me, the name "Golf" is about as silly and as stupid as they come.

Wow... I am speachless..

Does this mean I am old because I knew what a VW Rabbit was? I'm turning 25 in less than a month and starting to get worried after reading this thread...

No, it doesn't mean you're necessarily "old". All it means is that you don't live in a box with no holes in it. You get out once in a while and see what the rest of the world has to offer. You look into our history and see what's in our past rather than concentrate on the "now". You have a dynamic sense of where and when you exist in the world. If something comes across your path that you don't recognise, you investigate to see where it came from, where it's going and what it was.
You have seen the TV series "Oblivious".

You know what is scarier? I still see a VW Rabbit on the road from time to time. Guess they are reliable or very cheap to maintain.

i dunno it doesnt make much difference to me, Ive always called the golf a rabbit anyway. it wwas what I first learned it as, and it always stuck with me. im 21, not like it matters.

I think rabbit is a much cooler name for that car anyway.
