Default What seems like the better Idea?

Well I wanted an S2000 for awhile now being on this forums over a year. Well I am 20 and have credit above 700. I called for insurance and it was $300 a month. Which was high but I could deal with it for an 05 S. I sell my car and go to the dealership with $7,000 as a downpayment for an 05 S2000 for 19 because my dad was a car sales man for over 20 years and knows some people. Well I call progressive and they give me a price of $2,9XX every 6 months. Thats ****ing outragious. Over $500 a month. So basically I have a decision of my dad taking a personal loan of $5,000 out and I put $12,000 on a private party S or I get a older honda civic hatch and swap a B series in it for kicks and get a street bike. Im liking the streetbike option because I would love to have a shitload of saving money. Should I get an S2000 or get the Eg and Bike? And if so what kind of bike would be good? I want a 600 maybe. Im 20 years old. 5'3 and weight about 145 lbs. So Im pretty small but I have rode dirtbikes for ever and am actually really good on dirt and good for how new I am on street. Thanks for your input.

I am just worried about how reliable a $12k S would be. I can afford the S and by no means am I worried about it. Its just the position I am in with my age and living in california. You have a Ducati and a WRX why do you say get an S? Seems like you have a good combination because you have the turbo'd family car and the Sunday cruiser.

Also I do not currently have a daily driver so it would be within the week.

Hold on, I'm in Car talk and we are debating about getting an S2000 or a motorcycle...

then I start to think I'm in bike talk... then I drift over thinking this is S2000 talk....

12K will be hard to get a good S. Insurance is ridiculous too at 6K a year for you. Personally, I wouldn't do it....

I'd get a beater and have fun with the bike.

That's a horrendous ins. quote No way is an S2K, nor any car for that matter, worth that premium, sheesh what a rip-off

If this is your only option on getting an S2K, then I'd go with the beater/bike option bro

Well it was 6k a year for an 05-6. Its actually reasonable for an 00 and or I could go liability if needed. But like you said I would be at the bottom of the barrel with a $12K s2k and probably high milage and problems. I would like to just save funds and get another 3-4 grand but like posted I sold my civic and need a car

If I go bike route should I go new with little down or used cash? Can I trust my life with someone elses POS?

If I get a bike I might just get a Del Sol to help "TRY" to fill the gap where the S should be. Man did I feel at home sitting in an S after not test driving it for about a year.

Well, you'll always save $$ by buying used of course, but you do run the risk of potential problems... Anything new you buy will depreciate as soon as you leave the lot...

Me personally, I've never bought any vehicle new and have had zero problems with my used purchases to date and that even included one salvage title vehicle. It's up to you my friend, but usually if you buy used and do enough research and evaluating, you'll be fine.

Aren't there tons of decent cars you can lease for a around $250ish/mo.? I'd get one of those and, with insurance, probably pay around $350/mo. Are you in school? Do you even "need" a car? Maybe I'd amend my above answer to say buy whatever is nicest that you can find for around $3-4K.
