Default What other cars have a pointless dual exhaust?

And is the S2K's really that "pointless?" Some guy was talking about how they needed it to optimize the weight distribution... Don't know about that. But do you also think it would've been possible for them to make it as quiet with a single exhaust? Maybe there is a purpose behind it... Hell if I know.

Other cars I can think of:

Audi 1.8T
Audi TT
New Miata
Mazda RX-7 (?)
BMW I-6 engines?? - I think these are justified, they do have two separate headers

I'm not so sure about the Audi example seeing as my 3.0 has separate manifolds, cats, and pipes for each cylinder bank. The four cylinder's just carryover the dual pipes from their bigger brothers.

I'd say it is somewhat pointless performance-wise other than the fact it looks better.

The S2k's dual mufflers offer greater noise reduction for a given level of flow than a single would. If they'd run a single, with the same noise abatement, it would have reduced power. They had a noise requirement, the duals allowed them to meet it while keeping the system as free-flowing as possible.

I.e., they're not "pointless".

Right... But what's going at the manifold is what matters. Yours is a V-6, the 1.8 is a I-4.

This is the answer I was looking for. I've been reading around and everyone says it's impossible to find a relatively "quiet" single pipe... Which means that it's probably not feasible given what the car is designed to accommodate.

Thanks for the correction.
I always thought it was for looks only.

similar to the 80mm dual somebody makes for the S... similar flow to the 70mm singles but less noise.

can't remember who makes it... :/

The camaro (4th gen) dual exhausts are useless. Its a single pipe that comes into one muffler with two outs. how come the 60mm guys dont run this? then you have the weight reduction of ONE muffler + the looks of two.
