but the past two years I have had a Toyota Tacoma, Toyota 4Runner, Mazda Miata, Nissan Xterra, Honda Civic RT4WD, Subaru WRX, Subaru Impreza, and Nissan Pathfinder as daily drivers/primary cars.

I think pick-up is the logical choice given the question asks about getting the most utility out of your fleet.
I have a small sedan and another sports car. I plan to trade the sedan for a coupe. So I'm going in the wrong direction.

Sometimes logical choices might make sense, but your brain just says no.
Like me, when I had a brand new 2014 BRZ I was building (over $50k CAD into it including the car when I sold it) and chose to buy a supercharged shitbox NA Miata to daily drive. I am neither a smart, or rich man.

If I'm single, I'd say a sedan of some sort.
If I'm married, probably a pickup truck for the inevitable hauling of furniture, home reno materials, lumber, potting soil, etc, etc, that is bound to occur.
If I'm married with kids, go straight to minivan (despite the fact that I continue to fight it for at least two more years).

She doesn't like the size of the pickup at all. A minivan is way easier to drive and easier to load kids as well (we have an 8-month old, plus 12 and 7 year olds). Neither of us like SUVs - too big and not enough utility.

SUV for me. I've done a lot of sedans, the last one was considerably quicker than the S so the S remained parked and I rarely drove it. Now having an SUV I can do what I need to with it and get my jollies in the S again.
My wife's Jeep Wrangler was supposed to fill the SUV role, but we found its limitations, so on the radar next for her is either a sedan or a wagon. We've got 6 cars currently (one is a project car) so we need a sedan to fill the void. The IS300/350 F sport is at the top of the list right now.
