Default What happens when Google's self driving cars get into crashes

So far the Google self-driving car has been in 12 accidents - all the fault of humans.

Kind of cool that they have data to show eactly how the crashes occur.

It's smart, and definitely a CYA for them.

I also hate that news outlets are running headlines like "Driverless google car involved in first ever injury accident", which is clickbait and people expect that the story is about a faulty driverless car.

Instead the headlines should be "People are morons and keep rear-ending Google's shit".

As long as self driving cars stay in the right hand lane, I don't care what they do.

Honestly I feel differently, IMO a driverless car is much less likely to cause an accident than the regular distracted morons driving today.

Only a matter of time till humans aren't allowed to drive on public roads in the name of "safety." Probably isn't necessarily a bad thing because the majority of drivers are terrible. It's going to put a lot of body shops out of business, but it'll definitely save people a lot of money in the long run.

This assumes that every square foot of every road in the country is mapped and databased by the autonomous vehicles. It also assumes that errors in the "system" are so rare that the need for a human to actually take control is virtually non existent.

Bottom line is that I don't think we'll see this in either of our lifetimes.

I think what is FAR more likely though is that these autonomous vehicles are going to put traditional taxis out of business in big metropolitan areas in the next 10-15 years.
