what happened to the R8?

Itd be hard to pass up an R8, just awesome looking, borderline exotic.

There's strong competition from Porsche, especially with the newer versions coming out. Seems the R8 looks don't have much power after its initial launch and rumors of a new V10 TDI motor coming out and a revised Gallardo on a new platform would prevent me from jumping on board.

It's still sold out & getting price premiums. It was always meant to be Audi's Porsche Carrera killer. In terms of performance it is very close, if not slightly better than the current 911. In terms of bang for the buck, it has never been there, but it is a great limited production car.

R8 shoppers aren't in the same market as GT-R shoppers.
R8 buyers can actually afford to buy an R8, GTR "buyers" are all 14 and deeply saddened that they cant use their forza 2 credits to buy one in real life.

The hype is dead because it's a slow, ugly POS. It's like an Ashton Martin except the Ashton Martin actually looks good.
People that thinks the R8 looks good will love the ugliass Audi TT.
