Default What is a good car under $2000?

I have been looking at manual honda civics(1992-1995) that are under $2000(I do have about 3k, but planning to save the rest for tax and maintenance).

How long do you think these cars will last?

Are there any alternatives? If not, what is a good honda civic forum where I can find one for sale?

I've been looking around for one on autotrader, craigslist and ebay, but have had no luck finding a decent ex model. I will probably have to settle for dx or lx models.

I'm going to have to buy one before or around mid february.

PS. Just in case you guys know/have one(has to be manual) on sale, I live in NY(close to city) and go to school in Wellesley MA(close to Boston).

I have been using my 93 Civic VX for atleast a year now as a daily driver. Get's around 40 mpg but should be around 45-55.. it needs some work.

This thing is built like a tank, the engine that is.. it has 150k miles and still runs strong. Stops on a dime, but accelerates as fast a dime rolling in the street. 92hp baybeeeee! YEA! lol..

Awesome car for commuting and saving money on gas.

I picked mine up for around 2500 and will probably sell it for 3,000. I would suggest looking at coupes or sedans, as the hatchbacks generally are more than bluebook because of supply and demand.. atleast around here in Phoenix they are. All the Honda tuners around here want em.. They can be fast as hell tho with the right stuff

Yes, I noticed that hatchbacks were going for more.

40 mpg? I'd love to get somewhere near that, because I need to travel between MA and NY a lot.

I forgot to mention; six things I'd like to have on the car are heat, ac, high mpg, regular color(no bright green), manual transmission and a tachometer!

Protege/Tracer/Escort triplets. They are great econboxes and typically can be had for than a Civic. At $2000 many of your choices will be hit or miss. You could pic up a Crown Vic that will give you 50,000 maintainance free miles or a Camry that needs a new transmission next week.
Really look for signs that maintainance was done and the car wasn't modified or repaired incorrectly at some point. Best of luck!

Proteges are super reliable and are cheaper than comparable Civics because they don't come with the Honda name.

Thiis would make more sense. Bidding isn't pricey yet but there are still four days left.
