what is going to compete with the 1-series?
I know there are other threads about the 1-series, but I was just wanted to ask what people are expecting? how it will stack up against the current (or near future) cars and what will make the 1-series better?:
R32 $33K 250hp (awd)
RX-8 $27K to $32-ish 212hp (low weight)
EVO mid-$30s 300hp
STi mid-$30s 300hp
328i $32K 230hp
335i $39K 300hp
IS250 $30K 204hp
IS350 $36K 306hp
A3 $26k - $34K 200-250hp
128 (?) under $30K 230hp
135 (?) low-mid $30s 300hp
For the most part listed the MSRP you have to add optons for exampe the R32 is not much but for the 3-er or the IS can be another $7K more.
I listed the lower price of the 3-series sedan a couple grand more for the coupe but I figure if you want to go up to the price into a 3-series you may want to save a few bucks off the coupe.

128 will compete with WRX ( not STi ), RX-8, and preowned 330 ZHP.
I've been hanging out on a BMW forum recently. Its residents have doubts that 128/135 will be on par with 330 ZHP as far as handling/behind-the-wheel feel. A lot of complaints about numb/disconnected/vague feel of E9* and they are afraid that 1-series will be the same.

rai - you've broken your mold! I expected that you'd phrase this post as "If you had $70K to spend on a 135 BMW and one of its competitors, what model car would the competitor be?"

Keep dreaming.
High 30K to mid 40K.....

I will definetly be cross-shopping the 135i and Evo X. Personally I like the Bimmer more as it's a coupe, RWD, V6, and IMO a more complete car. If the Evo is the better preformer, that's probably what I'll get. I'd still rather have $45k and get a 08 C6 though.
