Thanks for the great info guys!

I was under the impression that F1 cars were superior because of tthe huge budgets spent on R&D.
Its amazing that they can still be so fast with all of the design restrictions placed on them.

Another thing that seems to have been neglected to be mentioned is the tires

F1 Tires are designed to handles hard g turns both left and right all the time. CART and IRL use tires that are designed for superhigh speeds and one turn direction only (not including the road course sections). Also, full slicks are in effect in any US racing series, but only three major racing series do not use full slicks:

- Formula 1, which uses slotted tires to keep speeds reasonable
- World Rally Championship, nuff said
- NIRA street stock, which uses street racing tires

I think that as far as top speed and power goes, CART cars will take the cake. Handling, downforce, lateral G's, etc. go to F1. I, presonally, prefer F1 cars over CART, IRL, etc. There's a reason why everyone wants to be an F1 driver. Look at Montoya...

OT: i think i'd watch CART/IRL or even NASCAR a lot more if the courses weren't ovals with left turns only.

Methinks that if an F1 were set up to race on a CART track you'd find that they'd rival the CART cars in top speed. Increased downforce creates increased drag. Put the F1 cars on Indy's oval and you'll find that they'll change the gearing and cut the wings to almost nothing; you'd see top speeds in the 230 - 240 range I'm sure. Maybe higher.

In the world of racing, I believe F1 is considered the ultimate. Just look how many Indy/NASCAR drivers have tried (often successfully) to enter F1 (Andretti, etal).
