I am Mercedes fan, but skip the C class. (unless it is the c36 amg) Anyway I have driven the awd c class model, it felt like driving in sand. Absolutly terrible!
I really like the Legacy Gt also! AWD is the way to go!!!
I have a AWD Ridgeline that is about to turn 80,000, and I have loved every mile. I had studded tires last winter, my wife drove to school every day all winter safely. 70 miles round trip!

Doesn't Ford make an AWD Fusion? Given she is in Michigan I figure it's at least nice to consider domestic products (or Volvo owned by Ford).
Actually a SAAB 93 AWD would also probably be a great used car buy. The AWD model got good reviews but as always SAAB's resale makes it a bad new car purchase. Used on the other hand...

i don't think there is really a better option than the 2010 subi Legacy as far as new cars are concerned.
for about 22-23k you can walk with the premium package and CVT auto tranny upgrade. ( actually gets better mpg than their manual ).

i think i'll be looking into these next year.
