Want to get a Fit
#12
Upside: Practical, more fun than similar cars.
Downside: Ugly, slow, cheap interior, not comfortable.
If it were my mine I'd spend a bit more for a Mazda3. Which is why there's a Mazda3 in my driveway and not a Fit.

I bought an '09 Sport MT 7 months ago and love it. It reminds me of what I used to love about Civics of the past- small, space and fuel efficient, and fun to drive.
I do see the argument that the Civic is a better buy for the money especially since there is more room to deal on them. However if you prefer the utility of a hatchback or you just like a smaller car, the Fit is worth a look. Mine has met or beat my expectations in every way. It is a great city car and a better highway car than I expected, and my commute is almost all highway. I feel the road noise isn't bad compared to any other Honda. I'm averaging 38.5 mpg and frequently break 40, though I try pretty hard for that. It helps that I still have the S2k as an outlet
For me, main pros are:
-Fun to drive- quick steering with decent feel, peppy enough with manual
-Fuel economy- very easy to beat EPA ratings
-Utility- Magic seats are great and easy to use
-Great visibility, decent stereo, USB adapter, nice steering wheel make it a nice place to spend an hour and a half each day
-Made in Japan just like my S2k and Integra
Cons:
-Tall, light, and shaped like a sail = excitement in crosswinds
-MT could use a 6th gear.
You will see some very negative opinions on the Fit to go with the good ones, I think that is natural and fair since the car has been hyped so much. That makes people who aren't economy car people give it a try, but it is what it is. So are the other cars in its class but they don't get as much attention. You should definitely drive it to see if it is for you.

My girlfriend has a Fit Sport 5 speed and if you are looking for an economy car it is hard to beat ! That said there are several things that bug me about it. One the carpet is that cheap stuff and it makes it hard to vacuum. Two the shifter is not Honda like in its precision . It is kind of notchy to me. 3rd this car really seems even slower than even a Civic of 12 years ago.
The best things about it are fun to drive, great handling, and cargo versatility with those rear seats.
To me this is simple if you need the extra cargo versatility get the Fit ! If you don't haul that much then get the Civic .
