it makes some sense now that porsche is VW. no reason to cannibalize sales from vw. i wonder if vw will start making even higher end sedans and suvs. they always have audi too.

Well, the vote is to axe them in seven years when the model runs its course, and get Porsche back to sports cars only. The question is, as a part of VW, will Porsche need an SUV and GT sedan? The Cayenne has been a cash cow for Porsche - who knows what VW will really do to keep that revenue channel. If the Panamera sells, I bet both models will be extended, although thgey may be built on VW platforms in the future.

As for the entry level Porsche, think $40k S2000/Boxster.

Wow! That did not take long. The Panamera hasn't even hit streets and it's AXED!

I am surprised by this news, but the more I think about it, I understand VW's reasoning.

Axing cash cows will no longer give Porsche the ability to buy up VW again. You know, because the Germans don't want to repeat history.

I don't know, that one has me worried. IMO the Boxster is the right level for entry into the Porsche brand- it shares parts upwards with the 911 and while not cheap is reachable for the average person with sportscar aspirations.

Going below that price point and sharing parts downwards with a VW model screams 924 to me.

But a Boxster is basically the front end of a 911. A new entry models would be built on a VW base, so who knows. If it allows a case for a $35-40k Porsche and a $25-30k VW convertible, I'd be for it.
