Maybe in the wet, but no way in hell would a stock S60R outperform an Elise on any type of track in dry condition. First of all, the Elise is still quicker. Second, the Elise handles so much better. It's not like the S60R is so much faster than the Elise on the straights that it makes up for its handling deficit in the corners. That's just not the case.

I think Volvo goes more for the "fast freeway cruiser" niche than the pure sports sedan one. My girlfriend has an S40 T5; it's got great low-end torque and is comfortable and easy to drive both around town and on the freeway, but it tends to lose its composure when driven above seven tenths.
I agree that it can be a decent freeway cruiser and has gobs of power, but I just don't like people saying it's a sports car or something.

It doesn't touch BMW in terms of driving feel.

Volvo has a looooooong way to go in their ''sports cars'', but I guess they aern't targeting at all S2000 owners haha
