Default Volvo S60R

A friend of a friend has a Volvo S60R. I'm not sure of the year, it's newer obviously. Anyway, he is convinced it'd completely decimate my stock MY01, both from a roll, and a dig. With the Volvo being AWD, I'm sure it'd leave me considerably far behind from a stop, but would it completely decimate me as he say's it will? I told him the S2000 is not built for straight line performance, but it'd probably be a close call.

It appears as if the Volvo boasts about 300hp/296tq. in stock trim, which is how his car sits. It also has a short throw 6 speed gear box, and adjustable suspension.

Has anyone ever had any experience with these cars? They appear to weigh a lot, so I doubt that 300hp/295tq. carries it very far. According to this kid, they are supposed to go 14.2ish @ 90 something. I mean, I've been 14.10 @ 99 on an unprepped track.

So what do you think? Would it destroy a MY01, and has anyone every had the chance to toy with one of these elderly folk cars?

motortrend got 14.44@99mph and 6.1 0-60 in their 2006 S60R. motortrend also got a 13.8@102mph and 5.2 0-60 in a MY00 S but they were years apart so dont take that as the end-all results. thats at 300 crank hp - they also tested a modded one with 430 crank hp and it only ran a 13.1 but @111mph with a 4.7 0-60.

his car will be easy to do the quarter mile in due to the awd but as long as you dont have down's syndrome and he's not a professional, i think you should atleast edge him out.

Yea it's supposed to have 300 at the crank, with it being AWD, it will have a substantial amount of drive train loss. I'm a decent driver, and the car will hook when the roads are warm. So from a stop it should be close, I doubt he'll launch that 4,000lb. yacht very well, it'll probably bog off the line anyway. From a roll, I'll have about 40/50whp less, but I'm also 1,000lbs. lighter, so it'd make it very interesting.

Once it get's warmer I'll give him a run on my road. I just wanted to know a little more about these cars.

I'm very familiar with the s60, my grandmother has one. [not trying to be funny]
And I made that comment because I think people race hondas more religiously than volvos.

I remember driving one...

horrible steering feel, horrible shifter, no driver feedback at all and feels too isolated from the road.

The S60R will pull from you in a straight line.

These things are quick and when I raced one with my 335i, I could barely pull on him.
